MARIA Carey’s well-received 2016 hit ‘I Wanna Be Yours’ was the first single to chart at number one in America and the first pop-star song to achieve the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100.
The British singer-songwriter is now set to make another comeback on May 5 with a new single, the first since 2011.
The title track is titled ‘Wellington Island’ and was written by Carey’s longtime producer, Steve Rourke.
It was released on May 6 by Island Entertainment and features lyrics written by the pop star about the dangers of a city where her life is at risk.
Mariah Carey’s new single is titled, ‘Well…
I Wont Be Your…’
The song has been nominated for three Grammys, including best pop song, for which it won best song.
It has also won a Juno Award for best original song.
“I think that, if we had to guess at what was going on at the time, it was like, ‘Oh my God, this is Mariah Carey.
It’s her first single’,” said Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.”
It was her first big hit, but also her first hit that went a little bit deeper than that.”
The lyrics were really dark, it felt like, and that was a really important moment for her.”‘WELLINGSTONE ISLAND’: WATCH MARIA’S NEW SINGLE ‘WEILLINGTON ISLAWSON’ ON ABC NEW’S THE BIG BANG THEORY’The new single’s title comes from Carey’s own life story and comes from her hometown of St John’s, New York.
Marias father was a member of the St Johns Irish Republican Army and her mother had served as a British police officer in London during the First World War.”
When she wrote the song, she was thinking about how her father was in the IRA and she was a young woman in New York, and she wanted to write a song about her dad,” producer Rourke said.”
She didn’t want to make a song that had a lot of politics in it, because it’s her father, so it felt quite personal.
“So, she wanted something that was really universal, and this is the universal thing that she was going for.”
