Michael Jackson died on Sunday after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was 69.
His daughter, Beyonce, and his nephew, John Legend, released a statement saying the entertainer’s death is a “devastating and painful loss.”
“We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from so many,” the statement said.
“The world mourns the loss of one of our most beloved and popular icons.
We have been overwhelmed by his amazing and enduring legacy and will always honor and honor his legacy.”
A decade ago, President Barack Obama called Jackson a “legend” and a “role model.”
He later added, “He inspired me to do what I did, and that’s what I hope he inspires others to do.”
“I want to thank everybody that came to our show and stood up for us,” Jackson said in his 2014 speech.
“You were amazing, you made it so that I could do what you were doing.
I will always love you, and I will never forget you.”
The Grammy Award-winning singer died at his home in California after suffering from pancreatic disease, TMZ reported.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Jackson, and son, Michael.
He was a pioneer of hip-hop music.
He became an overnight sensation with his breakthrough single, “Tough Love,” in the late 1970s and a Grammy Award nominee for Best Rap Performance in 1989 for his work on the album “G.O.O.”

In the years that followed, Jackson had a string of hits and albums, including the hit “It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)” and the Grammy-nominated “I Got a Woman.”
The music legend died at the age of 69, TMZ said.
He had been in declining health since March 2015.
Jackson had battled pancreatic illness for years.
He battled several rounds of chemotherapy treatments, which he said were painful and caused the disease to take over.
He told the Los Angeles Times in 2015, “I’m still alive, but my pancreas is still cancerous.
I’m not gonna fight it anymore.”
Jackson’s daughter, Janet, wrote on Instagram that her father “never had to fight it.”
“It’s a sad day,” she wrote.
“He was the best father and husband, and he loved all of us.
We are a family now, and we are grateful to have been his family.”

The singer had been battling pancreatitis and pancreatic cancers for more than 10 years, according to TMZ.
The rapper had a rare form of the disease called non-small cell lung cancer, according the news outlet.
Jackson’s son, John, said he was in a coma at home in Los Angeles.
“We lost one of the best entertainers in the world,” John Legend wrote in a Facebook post.
“Michael had the gift of music and he was so good with his words and his message.
He touched so many people and made us laugh and cry.
His life was a blessing to us all.”
The band The Jackson Five released a tribute on their website to Jackson.
“With a soul and a smile that is all his, Michael Jackson touched everyone, including our children,” the band wrote.
“The world will never know how he will feel after we see his last days, but his legacy will live forever.”
